GROUND ZERO

Beirut, Lebanon, 2021

This series shows multiple worksites around Pasteur area in Gemmayzeh, Beirut.

Following the port explosion on August 4th 2020, coupled with an already collapsing economy and state, NGOs became the main actors of the city reconstruction. The most affected neighborhoods also were the areas with the highest density of traditional buildings. While around 1000 heritage houses got damaged by the blast, these rescues took part in the essential duty of preserving the city’s - remaining - historic fabric.

Have a look at Together LiBeirut︎ & Beirut Heritage Initiative︎ immense work on restoring the built and cultural heritage of Lebanon.
